Following hysterias and reflections, Azerbaijan likewise decided to
build an airport in Karabakh, but not in Nagorno- (Highland) and
rather in Lowland Karabakh.
This idea was expressed during an event devoted to the International
Day of Tourism. Director Rustam Ahmedov of Azerbaijan's R&R Tourism
Agency informed that Azerbaijan `finds it expedient to commence
construction of an international airport in the region.'
He noted that the absence of an international airport in Karabakh is a
serious problem, APA News Agency of Azerbaijan reports.
As a response to the Armenians' such plans, Ahmedov proposed the
building of an airport in Azerbaijan's Aghjabadi city. In his words,
this will mean numerous new jobs and organizing international events
in Lowland Karabakh.
To note, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic capital city Stepanakert's
international airport is scheduled to start operations soon. And this
yet again has depressed Azerbaijani officials, who say this is
unacceptable and threaten to down Armenian airplanes.
