Nearly 10 thsd tons of buffalo meat imported to Armenia from India every year

Every year nearly 10 thsd tons of buffalo meat is imported to
Armenia from India, which meets the veterinary standards of Armenia,
Abraham Bakhchagulyan, Head of the State Food Safety Service of the
Armenian Ministry of Agricultutre, said at today's session of the
Government. He said that 5 companies, which have a 10-year experience
in deliveries, their own slaughter-houses meeting international
standards, meat processing shops, and cold-storage facilities, supply
the republic with buffalo meat. He assured that over the past 2 years
the control services did not reveal a single case of intoxication with
buffalo meat. Bakhchagulyan added that a total of 10.3 thsd tons of
buffalo meat was delivered to Armenia in 2011.
In particular, the suppliers are Alex Grig (61.2% of the market),
"Pargev" (17%), Mokonats (9.5%), Armen-Amik Yeghbayrner JV (6.5%),
Univeral Avan (3.5%). Over Jan-Sept 2012, these companies imported a
total of 5284 tons of buffalo meat to Armenia. In the meantime, the
shares of the market participants have changed. For instance, the
share of Alex Grig has dropped to 18.1%, "Pargev" - 33.4%, Armen-Amik
Yeghbayrner - 23.52%, Universal Avan - 11.6%, he said.
