YEREVAN, APRIL 3, ARMENPRESS. Newly elected Pope Francis stated that
he desires to be buried under the monument dedicated to the memory of
the Armenian Genocide victims. The Pope of Rome stated this during
the erection of the cross-stone (khachkar) in Buenos Aires in 2005,
during the commemoration of the 90th anniversary of the Armenian
Genocide. As reports "Armenpress" the Prelate of the Argentina and
Chile Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church Archbishop Gissak
Mouradian stated this in an article entitled "Our Friend Pope", where
His Grace discovers the details of the speech delivered by Argentine
Jorge Mario Bergoglio. The Prelate of the Argentina and Chile Diocese
of the Armenian Apostolic Church Archbishop Gissak Mouradian stated:
"The newly elected holy Pope of the Roman Catholic Church is our
friend. He is a friend of mine personally, friend of the Armenian
community of Buenos Aires, and Armenian people in general. I got
acquainted with the newly elected Pope in 2005, when we marked the
90th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and on this occasion a
cross-stone dedicated to the memory of the martyrs was placed in the
Mother See of Buenos Aires. His Grace Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who was
the Archbishop of Argentina and Cardinal of Buenos Aires at that time,
participated in the opening ceremony of the cross-stone. Among other
things he noted that he desires to be buried beneath that cross-stone
one day. Besides talking about the Armenian Apostolic Church and
Martyrdom of the Armenian people, he urged Turkey to recognize the
Genocide and find a peaceful solution for the Armenian question. We
wish success and long life to our friend Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio
and particularly present Pope of Rome Francis."
