Yerevan City Council Election campaign kicks off

The City Council election campaign starts today.
The elections are slated for May 5, the campaign will end on May 3.
Six political forces and one alliance are participating in the the
elections - Republican, Prosperous Armenia, Rule of Law, Mission,
Armenian National Congress, Armenian Revolutionary
Federation-Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D) parties and Barev Yerevan alliance.
The ruling Republican party's slogan is Better Yerevan. The list of
the party is topped by incumbent mayor Taron Margaryan, grand master,
Olympic Champion Smbat Lputyan and rector of Yerevan Architectural
University Hovannes Tokmajyan.
The Prosperous Armenia party has chosen several slogans among them are
Let's Start from Yerevan, We will make a Change. The first three in
the list are ex foreign minister Vartan Oskanian, MP Gurgen Arsenyan
and former deputy healthcare minister Abraham Manukyan.
The ARF-D's slogan is Yerevan, Change Armenia. Its list is headed by
the ARF-D Supreme Body representative Armen Rustamyan, followed by
representatives Aghvan Vardanyan and Arsen Hambardzumyan.
The Rule of Law will participate in the elections with We can Do More
slogan. The list is headed by Emergency Situations Minister Armen
Yeritsyan, followed by Hovhannes Shahinyan and Sofya Artenyan.
The list of Barev Yerevan alliance is headed by deputy leader of
Heritage party Armen Rustamyan. The second comes Anahit Bakhshyan,
followed by Mesrop Apresyan, head of A1+ Internet TV. The alliance has
not published its slogan yet.
The first three in the ANC list are ex mayor of Yerevan Vahagn
Khachatryan, followed by economist Zoya Tadevosyan and ANC
spokesperson Arman Musinyan. The slogan is - The Power to People.
The first three in Mission party's list are Mesrop Arakelyan, Manuk
Sukiasyan and Hrach Sargsyan. The three are members of the political
council of the party. No slogan has publicized yet.
Yerevan City Council elections are being conducted every four years
with proportional lists of parties. The City Council comprises of 65
members. The first person in the list of the party that has received
more than 40% of seats is considered elected mayor. If the parties
fail to gather so many votes, the mayor is being elected by City
Council.
