NO IRRIGATION WATER SHORTAGE EXPECTED THIS YEAR IN ARMENIA

YEREVAN, April 11. /ARKA/. Armenia's all water reservoirs are ready
for irrigation season, Andranik Andreasyan, head of the State Water
    Committee, said on Thursday.

"It is true now water in reservoirs is not sufficient, but the rain
forecasted in April and May is expected to fill the gap," he said
adding that this year's situation is more favorable than that of the
    previous year.

At its today's regular session, the Cabinet decided to earmark about
AMD 396 million from the reserve fund for repairing water supply
    system and ensuring irrigation.

In 2012, the government asked the National Assembly to make some
legislative changes to enlarge withdrawal of water from Lake Sevan
for irrigation from the 170 million cubic meters planned initially
    to 320 million.

The price for irrigation water was not raised despite water reserve
shortage. It was kept pegged at AMD 11 per one cubic meter. ($1 -
    AMD 418.31). -0-
