Ter-Petrosyan sees no `political process' in Hovannisian's movement,
    dismisses accusations

Former president and leader of an opposition bloc Levon Ter-Petrosyan
has stood by his view that the anti-government campaign launched by
another oppositionist Raffi Hovannisian in the wake of the disputed
presidential election has been devoid of `political process'.

He thus answered accusations made by Hovannisian the previous day that
Ter-Petrosyan and his Armenian National Congress (ANC) did not stand
by the people during the crunch time for the post-election protests
    earlier this week.

Protesters led by Hovannisian were stopped by riot police during their
attempt to march towards the Presidential Palace on April 9, the day
when President Serzh Sargsyan was sworn in for a second term in
    office.

Speaking at the founding congress of the ANC party in Yerevan on
Saturday Ter-Petrosyan reminded that he was the only opposition leader
to have explicitly recognized Hovannisian as the real winner of the
February 18 ballot. `At that was itself the biggest single support,'
he stressed, adding that most of the ANC's rank-and-file activists
were also attending rallies and protests organized by the Hovannisian
    team.

`Let everyone understand once and for all: we are a political party
and join and support solely political processes. During the current
post-election period we have seen everything but political processes,'
    underscored Ter-Petrosyan.

The ANC leader, at the same time, emphasized that he still considered
opposition consolidation possible before or after next month's
municipal elections in Yerevan, which he described as the only
possibility to try and achieve a power change in the country for the
    time being.
