ARMENIA TO CHAIR COUNCIL OF EUROPE'S COMMITTEE OF MINISTERS

On May 16, Armenia will receive the chairmanship of the Committee of
Ministers of the Council of Europe. The same day, the programme to
be implemented during this presidency will be presented, Panorama.am
reported.
"Chairmanship is undertaken as being important for the Council of
Europe period. We went through significant reforms to be able to
assist member countries in the implementation of obligations in the
legal field," Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn
Jagland told reporters in Yerevan.
A memorandum on founding the office of the Council of Europe and
its legal status was signed on Tuesday at a meeting with the Acting
Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian.
The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe was preciously
chaired by Andorra.
