About 50 servicemen and 10 units of military and special equipment of
the Russian military base in Armenia participated in a special
tactical exercise which finished on Thursday, News-Armenia reported.
"Practical skills in conducting reconnaissance operations in
mountainous areas and urban environments were carried out during the
event," the Press Service of the Southern Military District reported.
In accordance with the exercise plan, the intelligence agents had to
locate and destroy a command post to the rear of an imaginary enemy,
capturing secret information, as well as weapons and communications
equipment.
While implementing the tasks, unit personnel made an assault landing
from a helicopter and carried out covert relocation in a mountainous
forested area to the place of special actions.
In addition, during the simulations, the agents captured a command
post, located in one of the reinforced forts in so-called 'Great
Fortress' in Gyumri city, which has been the point of permanent
deployment of Russian troops in the South Caucasus from the early 19th
century to the present day.
