Only the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) can
unite the opposition, says Aghvan Vardanyan, Vice Chairman of the
ARF Supreme Council.
"Armenia needs changes and we are obliged to make those changes. Our
aim is to eliminate the single-party system, which is possible in case
the opposition candidate wins the City Council elections," he said.
Vardanyan says his party is the most independent and principled party
and the parties which are not joining the opposition in the municipal
election will show their true face after the election.
"We made an attempt to unite the opposition but we did not succeed in
our endeavors and now the four opposition forces are participating
in the race separately. Each of them will try to score the maximum
number of votes in the election. There are all possibilities for
the opposition to unite and put an end to the one-party system,"
said the ARF representative.
With regard to the possibility of a joint candidate, Mr Vardanyan said,
"Once the picture is clear, we shall hold a public debate to determine
the most productive candidate."
