ANOTHER ARMENIAN VICTIM IN RUSSIA
The Union of Armenians of Lithuania officially refused the proposal
of the president of the Union of Armenians of Russia to support Taron
Margaryan in the mayoral election of Yerevan. It is not hard to guess
why Ara Abrahamyan is interested in supporting Taron Margaryan.
Yerevan is one of the main areas divided to quotas among Armenia-
and Russia-based businessmen. Support is in return for quotas.
Of course, it would have been better if the union of the Armenians of
Russia dealt with the problems of Armenians in Russia, not quota-based
relations with the Armenian authorities.
On April 19 the body of the next Armenian was found in Saint
Petersburg. According to the official story, a certain Botoff born
in 1974 and with criminal record killed a young citizen of Armenia
in the result of a quarrel in a shop. It is possible that there was
no quarrel, and the young man was killed on ethnic grounds.
At least, the authors of comments on this news in Russian websites
sometimes call to award the killer. Four days have passed but no
Armenian organization based in Russia has reacted. Perhaps, everyone
is busy supporting Taron Margaryan of RPA or organizing Armenian show
business events in Moscow.
Of course, the life of an Armenian young man, like the lives of all
the other victims of Russian nationalism, is a trifle compared with
such grand deeds.
The leaders of the Armenian community in Russia would hardly make a
noise about such minor issues. In Armenia too, these issues do not
worry anyone, whether at the official, political or social level.
These issues even disturb everyone because tomorrow they may need
to go to Moscow to get some political support where they might be
reminded about those trifles.
Therefore, they had better keep silent especially that the noise
about the election of the Council of Elders of Yerevan is a nice
opportunity for silence.
