OPPOSITION ACTIVISTS ASSAULTED IN YEREVAN DISTRICT
10:40 ~U 23.04.13
Activists of the opposition Armenian National Congress were assaulted
in the Yerevan's administrative district of Ajapnyak while distributing
their campaign leaflets among the voters. One of the activists was
later hospitalized.
The opposition alliance has issued a statement in that connection,
describing the attack as a political instruction aimed to hamper
their campaign for the Yerevan municipal council.
"The regime is in a panic, and that panic is over the [Armenian
National] Congress's recent assembly, and its political resonance. The
regime's anxiety also provides evidence of the fact that the
opposition's victory in the capital's election may really pave way for
the government change process in Armenia. Hence it is obvious that
the district riff-raff affiliated with or acting under the umbrella
of the [ruling] Republican [Party] have been given a clear political
instruction to hamper the Congress' campaign. The instruction has
been issued by the upper circles. And regardless of who is carrying
it out - whether the police forces or the district ruffian - that
personalizes the head of the regime, [President] Serzh Sargsyan,"
reads the statement.
