'ETHNIC DEATH PENALTIES' CONTINUE IN TURKEY - HUMAN RIGHTS ADVOCATE

Diyarbakir branch of the Organization of Human Rights and Solidarity
for Oppressed People (Mazlumder) has condemned the sentence of the
murderer of Armenian soldier in Turkey Sevag Balikci, Armenian-Turkish
paper Agos writes.
"Sevag's being an Armenian, the circumstance that such cases have
taken place previously as well with mostly Kurds, the facts proving
that these murders were not result of negligence, draw our attention on
this reality and this reality is the following: people go to mandatory
military service but face discrimination which ends in their death,"
head of the branch Abdurrahman Ay said.
Ay said that taking into consideration this reality the court must
study the case thoroughly and reveal. He said the court has not
justified their expectations.
Bringing the cases of Sevag's death, the verdict over it, the murder
of young Kurdish soldiers, Hrant Dink's murder trial, Ay said in all
the cases the trust toward justice reduces.
"The manifestation of discrimination for people's religious, national
or ideological orientation, subjecting them to 'ethnic death penalty'
has unfortunately become a reality in this country," he said.
The human rights advocate said the sentence in Balikci murder case
is incomplete as the investigation was not satisfactory. He said they
will continue following the legal processes.
