TURKEY'S POLICY OF DENIAL IS SERIOUS THREAT TO ARMENIAN PEOPLE - ENVOY
April 24, 2013 | 19:39
Turkey's policy of Armenian Genocide denial is by far the major threat
to the Armenian people, said the Armenian Ambassador to Romania Hamlet
Gasparyan on April 24 during the genocide commemoration event, held
in Bucharest, Romania.
There are number of events held in these days in Romanian cities
dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide in
Ottoman Turkey. The events involved hundreds of Romanian Armenians,
representatives of the Romanian legislative branch and local
government, political parties and ethnic minorities, intellectuals
and students.
On April 24 at the Church of the Holy Michael and Gabriel in Bucharest
a requiem mass was held, which was attended by representatives of
the Romanian Catholic, Coptic Orthodox and Protestant churches. At
the end of mass, representatives of the Armenian Embassy in Romania,
Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Romania and the Union
of Armenians in Romania laid wreaths at the cross stone-monument
dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
"Today the denial of the Armenian Genocide and the elimination of its
consequences by Turkey is a serious threat to the Armenian people,
as the devastating effects of genocide bear not only on its survivors
and their descendants, but on the entire Armenian nation and Armenia,"
said the envoy.
He thanked the governments and parliaments of the countries that have
recognized the Armenian Genocide and continue to fight against any
kind of racism.
