Georgia's Minister of Culture and Monument Protection Guram Odisharia
has promised the government's efforts to undertake the renovation of
Armenian churches free of charge.
According to Georgia Online, the decision has been made by Prime
Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili who notified the Armenian side of the
plan in the course of a recent visit to the country. But the initiative
is said to have angered some in the Georgian society.
"The mosque, the Armenian church and the Georgian monastery are
but a few steps far from each other. We'll get richer in case will
love more, respect more and give more. Making bold steps is always
beneficial, so today we must move forward, by taking such steps,"
said the Georgian official.
Citing experts' estimates, Odisharia added that it will be possible
to launch the renovation in just a couple of months.
The minister said his country is going sign an agreement with both
Armenia and Turkey.
Simultaneously, Georgian specialists will take part in the renovation
