SENATOR MARK KIRK: REMEMBERING VICTIMS OF THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

    WASHINGTON

The following information was released by Illinois Senator Mark Kirk:

"The Armenian Genocide is well-documented as one of the 20th century's
    greatest crimes against humanity."

Today, I met with His Eminence Archbishop Oshagan Choloyan, Prelate of
the Armenian Apostolic Church of the Eastern United States, and Ken
Hachikian, the Chairman of the Armenian National Committee of America
(ANCA), to mark the 98th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. From
1915-1923, 1.5 million Armenians were killed and 2 million more
deported by the Ottoman Empire. The Armenian Genocide is
well-documented as one of the 20th century's greatest crimes against
humanity. It is time the United States formally recognized the
Armenian Genocide, as have 11 of our NATO allies and the European
    Union.

I was privileged to serve as Co-Chair of the Armenian Issues Caucus in
the House of Representatives and look forward to working closely with
the Armenian-American community in the future.
