Media: Anti-Iranian and anti-Russian statements were voiced at meeting
of Azerbaijani Foreign Minister and Israeli President

Anti-Russian and anti-Iranian statements were voiced during the
meeting of Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov and
Israeli President Shimon Peres. The newspaper "Azadlig" referring to
the `Associated Press' writes that Peres has stated that Azerbaijan,
which has borders with Iran, differs by its attitude towards war and
terrorism. "It is Azerbaijan that plays a major role in suppression of
Iran's influence over the Middle East," said the president of Israel.

Even in times of deteriorating relations between Israel and Turkey,
Azerbaijani-Israeli relations have continued to be strong. Turkish
newspaper `Hurriyet' referred to the topic of Iran and noted that
Peres had stated that Azerbaijan's position on peace, friendship and
independence is known. "Azerbaijan, that has a unique geographical
position, will continue to speak out against terrorism and war. Iran
is a serious threat to security and stability in the world. This
country casts a shadow over the Middle East by financing the terrorism
and having nuclear weapons," Turkish newspaper quotes Peres.

Mammadyarov, in its turn, stated that Azerbaijan has managed to
maintain its independence in such a sensitive region. Israel is also
located in such complex region and tries to establish relationship
with its neighbors. "Thus you understand our problems. I believe that
this is a serious reason for developing relations between two
nations," said the head of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan.

`Livan Daily Star' newspaper, referring to Mammadyarov - Peres meeting
writes about the statement of the President of Israel, according to
which Azerbaijan is located between Iran and Russia, and it is "a hard
    neighborhood."
