WIKIMEDIA-ARMENIA SCIENTIFIC AND EDUCATIONAL NGO ESTABLISHED IN ARMENIA
YEREVAN, August 2. /ARKA/. Wikimedia-Armenia scientific and
educational non-governmental organization has appeared in Armenia,
Susanna Lazarian, the head of the newly established organization and
the coordinator of Wikimedia Foundation in Armenia, told journalists
on Friday.
She said that the aim of the new organization is to contribute to
formation of an information society by involving as many as possible
people in enrichment of Wikimedia (Wikipedia, Wikibooks etc) projects.
"The organization will also run campaigns, conduct educational events
and cooperate with cultural establishments," she said.
Lazarian also said that today Wikimedia's local funds function in
50 countries and more than 30 countries are negotiating now with the
foundation for opening local offices there.
She said that Wikicommunity organized a number of events in Armenia
yet before the establishment of this organization here. The first in
Armenia Wikiconference held by ArmenTel Company trading as Beeline
jointly with Wikimedia Foundation in Yerevan on September 8 and 9,
2012 is among them.
"The second Wikiconference is planned to be held in Armenia this year,"
she added.
In her words, Armenia will be able to take official part in Wiki
Loves Monuments world photo contest this year for the first time.
"Everybody wanting can post photos of monuments on Wikimedia website
in September, and the results of this contest will be summarized in
Yerevan in October, and winners will take part in the world contest."
Lazarian also stressed that the first projects of Wikimedia-Armenia
will be focused on expansion of Armenian-language content in
