The signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union will
be a life- changing step for Armenia, Head of Modus Vivendi Center,
political expert Ara Papyan told journalists on Saturday.
"I think we must integrate with Europe. Joining the Eurasian Union
would mean stepping on the same Soviet Union rake. Besides, Europe
has more values to give us than Eurasia with its high corruption and
poverty. So, the only option for us for the moment is to initial the
Association Agreement with the European Union despite Russia's
pressure," Papyan said.
He said that the shooting of a Turkish shepherd by Russian soldiers
guarding the Armenian border and the humiliation of an Armenian driver
in a Russian court were both displays of Russia's jealousy. "The
Russians are using this pressure to keep us away from Europe," Papyan
said.
While in Yerevan on July 11 2013 EU Commissioner for Enlargement and
Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule said that the Armenia-EU association
agreement might be signed in Nov 2013. He said that the agreement
would not limit Armenia's partnership with Russia and other countries.
