YEREVAN, AUGUST 9, ARMENPRESS. The 66th Film Festival Locarno launched
on August 7. The Film Festival Locarno is an international film
festival held annually in August in the city of Locarno, Switzerland
since 1946. After Cannes and Venice and together with Karlovy Vary,
Locarno is the Film Festival with the longest history and it is
accredited by FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers
Association). The main feature of the festival is the openair screening
space in the Piazza Grande, with room for over 8,000 spectators,
and with one of the largest open air screens in the world (26x14
metres). Within the framework of the festival a discussion dedicated
to the cooperation of the filmmakers of the Caucasus region will be
held on August 7-17. In frames of the Open Doors Screenings, "Bonded
Parallels" movie by Armenian filmmakers Hovhannes Glastyan and his
wife Marine Zakaryan will be displayed on August 10, The aforesaid
movie was shot in 2009. "Armenpress" introduces the interview with
director Hovhannes Galstyan.
- What was Your first reaction, when You received the invitation?
- The Film Festival Locarno and the Cannes festival are of the same
age. And only the Cannes, Venice, and Berlin festivals play more
significant role in this shpere, than the Film Festival Locarno. It
has been a long time since this festival enjoys the title of the most
"cinematographic" festival of the world. It's meaningless to tell you
about my joy, when we learnt that the film Festival Locarno decided
to reflect upon the Caucasian movies and that our early film has also
received invitation.
- What do You think the upcoming discussions will give You as a
director and Armenia in general?
- Armenia will gain a chance to introduce its new movies to the world.
It won't be justified to seek fast benefits at this moment. For
instance, the joint production of films is a very long process,
which usually takes place in the electronic area of emails. We meet
each other face to face only after everything is done and we must
take certain steps in advance... Notwithstanding these all details
will interest no one, but specialists of the realm.
