ZHOGHOVURD: MAJORITY OF ARMENIAN YOUTH INCLINED TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY
10:36 13.08.13
The majority of Armenia's youth population is positively disposed
to leaving the country forever if offered the option, the paper
says, citing a recent survey by the UN Population Fund's Armenian
representation.
Director of the UNFPA Country Office Garik Hayrpetyan has told
the paper that the 78.5% of the younger generation are inclined
to migrating from the country in search of better jobs with higher
salaries.
"Some 48 percent of the respondents believe that it is easier to find
a job abroad. The salaries are 42 percent higher there. Then comes
the moral-psychological [factor]," Hayrapetyan has said.
Commenting on the figures, the paper notes that the Armenian society
is now facing two realities, one seeing the youth celebrating their
day with the prime minister and the other seeing young people who
are ready to leave the country permanently.
