AZERBAIJAN PLAYING WAR SCENARIO - EXPERT

In the run-up to scheduled presidential elections, the Azerbaijani clan
is doing all its best to underscore the hatred towards the Armenians,
an Armenian expert has said, commenting on the recent border tensions.
At a news conference on Tuesday, the military psychologist David
Jamalyan noted that the country simply seeks to pretend that it isn't
ready for a renewed war with Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh.
"Last year too, the Azerbaijani side's activeness on the border
coincided with the US Secretary of State's visit," he said, questioning
the fact of a mere coincidence.
The expert believes that Azerbaijan is deliberately exacerbating the
situation on the borderline ahead of each visit by a US official in
an effort to gain dividends by destabilizing the situation.
"Azerbaijan is obviously exacerbating the situation at times with
propaganda purposes. We made sure yet another time that the enemy
suspends its activeness for a certain period once it meets a strong
reaction by the Armenian side.
"We see yet another time that a disproportionate loss is the only
thing suppressing the enemy," Jamalyan said.
According to him, Azerbaijan's efforts are targeted at depopulating
the border villages of Armenia.
The expert referred to the incident with Hakob Injughulyan, the
Armenian conscript who is being held hostage in Azerbaijan after
accidently crossing into the country's territory last week.
"It is necessary to be very cautious while reacting [to Azerbaijan]
in order to prevent our guy from feeling a traitor and also to hold
back Azerbaijan from sadistic mechanisms. The Aliyev clan more than
ever feels the need of an enemy image," he noted.
Jamalyan said at the end that it is now very important for
Injughulyan's parents to feel that the state will do everything within
its power to return the soldier safe and sound.
