Azerbaijani rapper Huseyn Darya has been receiving threatening phone
calls for the past few days. The rapper notes that the callers are
outraged with his music video and think Darya defiled Islam, reports
Azerbaijani news agency 1news.az.
"They demand me to remove the video from the YouTube. I explained
that there is nothing in the video that could defile Islam, right
the opposite, I encourage people to be better, cleaner, think of
God before doing something, but no one wanted to listen to me. Every
single time the phone call ended with the same phrase: "If you don't
remove the video, you'll die!" tells the rapper.
According to Huseyn Darya, if he keeps receiving threatening phone
calls, he will seek the help of law enforcement authorities.
Another rapper Said Aliyev, also known as Dado, was arrested in
Azerbaijan for 10 days a few months ago because of a video about the
traffic police. The video contained criticism towards the bribery of
Azerbaijani traffic police, which violates the traffic rules, too.
Coordinator of the "Art for Democracy" human rights campaign Rasul
Jafarov condemned the arrest of Dado and regarded it as a violation
of freedom of creativity and expression.
