The St Mary Church of Sasoun is going to be recovered from a partial
collapse it suffered about a year ago.
The president of the local Armenians' union, Aziz Dagci, has recently
visited the place of warship located on Mount Marouta (2.973 m.)
together with a team of other interested people, including architects,
reports the Istanbul-based Armenian publication Hay Tert
After obtaining permission for repairs, the Union will try to recover
the construction to its original image.
It is planned to finish the repairs in just one month.
"The church on Mount Maruta is very important for us. We turned to all
the competent bodies for about a year. We will receive assistance for
the church's repair from the neighboring villages' residents. After
completing the repairs, we intend to serve a liturgy with the help
of a priest invited from Istanbul," Dagci said, adding that hundreds
of tourists will visit Sasoun in case the road leading to the church
is repaired.
