POLL: MOST OF AZERIS SEE ISA GAMBAR AS THEIR PRESIDENT

29% of Azeris see the leader of Musavat Party Isa Gambar as their
President, says the "Democracy and the Presidential Elections in
Azerbaijan 2013" poll, conducted by the ADAM Sociological Service with
the financial support of the German Marshall Fund among 1,000 people in
Baku, Seki, Gence, Mingecevir, Lenkeran and Quba June 25-July 25 2013.
26% are ready to vote for incumbent President Ilham Aliyev, 16.5%
for the chairman of the National Council and single candidate Rustem
Ibrahimbeyov, 6.5% for the leader of the People's Front Ali Karimli,
5.8% for the President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban
Aliyeva, 3.6% for the leader of the Liberal Party Lala Sovkat, 1.4%
for the leader of El Movement Eldar Nazamov. 8.6% have not decided
yet. According to Turan, 47.8% want to see their country democratic,
35.8% advocate "specifically national" democracy, 8.9% fear that
democracy may lead the country to chaos, 4.8% deny democracy as such.
57.5% believe that democracy level in Azerbaijan is low.
34.8% want Azerbaijan to move westward, 26.2% advocate an own path,
13.6% want the country to be like the oil exporting Arab nations,
13.4% want it to integrate with the former Soviet republics.
38.1% qualify Azerbaijan's ruling regime as "pseudo democracy," 26.3%
as semi democracy or limited democracy, 18.3% as wild capitalism or
anarchy, 9.9% as country transiting from the Soviet system to democracy
and freedom. Only 1.8% believe that Azerbaijan is truly democratic.
Meanwhile, the poll conducted earlier by the Ryay Monitoring Center
says that 81.2% of Azeris will vote for Ilham Aliyev, with only 2%
planning to vote for Isa Gambar.
