On August 21 the Chairman of the RA NA Committee on Foreign
Relations Artak Zakaryan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel to the Republic of Armenia
Shmuel Meirom.
Welcoming the Ambassador Artak Zakaryan as Head of Armenia-Israel
Parliamentary Friendship Delegation, has underlined that though the
relations with Israel are good, but they still need to create wide
opportunities of further improvement and cooperation, especially in
humanitarian, economic and political spheres. He has also highlighted
the necessity of activating the inter-parliamentary relations. Artak
Zakaryan has noted that the destinies of the Armenian and Jewish
peoples, as well as the present problems are similar, too.
Ambassador Meirom also highlighted the development of relations of the
National Assembly with Israeli Knesset and noted that a Friendship
Group with Armenia had already been formed in Israel, and conveyed
to Artak Zakaryan the welcoming letter of Yisrael Hasson, the newly
appointed Head of the Group.
The interlocutors touched upon the regional problems. The Ambassador
presented the developments in Near East and the position of his country
on the settlement of the Near East problems. Artak Zakaryan emphasized
Armenia's aspirations of having good relations with neighbouring
countries and referred to the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh
problem and the Armenian-Turkish relations.
In the course of the talk other issues were also discussed, both
sides highlighted the role of the Armenian community in Israel and the
Jewish community in Armenia in the development of bilateral relations.
