Armenian theater is prospering in Lebanon and theatrical life is
active there, Robert Arakelyan, Beirut-based theatrical producer,
art director, author of more than 100 performances and about 30 plays,
told reporters in Yerevan.
According to him, they do not have lack of spectators, but they play
the same performance 7-8 times and remove the decorations because
the Armenian community is small in Lebanon. "It is normal for such
community," he said.
Several Armenian theater companies operate in Lebanon.
According to Arakelyan, there is no emigration of Armenians from
Lebanon, but there is influx of refugees from Syria, with new actors
joining theater companies in Lebanon.
"The same theater company presents performances of various genres. We
try to make high-level performances so that they will not be inferior
to plays which are presented in Armenia," the producer said.
Arakelyan started his theatrical activities in Lebanon in 1993. Prior
to it, he worked at Yerevan Hrachya Ghaplanyan Drama Theatre.
