ARMENIAN LAWYER PROMISES TO EDUCATE YOUNGER GENERATION IF ELECTED TO CHAMBER

While the Chamber of Lawyers is preparing to hold its scheduled
elections on September 14, Tert.am has interviewed to Ashot Tadevosyan,
one of the candidates, to know his plans and proposals in case of
being elected.
The 81-year-old, who has has considerable experience in legal
consulting services and legal defense, says his primary task will be
to educate the younger generation of lawyers.
"If I am elected, I will first of all focus my efforts on making
the young lawyers' more literate. Most of the lawyers are young,
with those representing the older generation being few enough to be
counted on fingers. So it is necessary to help them because a beginner
always faces problems with a judge who is experienced. A lawyer with
an experience of just a couple of years cannot speak in court well
enough to defend a client. I have placed the accent on that.
I have to organize meetings with lawyers systematically and go and
listen to their speeches. I will gather 10-15 lawyers together every
time the presidency meets to raise their awareness of the questions
considered. One has to work no less than 10 years to become a public
defender. Hence the older generation has to work with a young lawyer
to transfer experience."
Asked about his chances of election, Tadevosyan said he has very little
hopes, given that the other contenders are much younger than him.
"No, I will not be elected. I can be said to have very little hope as
the other candidates are younger. I am aged enough, so many of those
who are young may not know me and vote for me. That's the problem,"
he answered.
