No official minimum consumer basket in Armenia - NGO head
November 30, 2013 | 17:31
YEREVAN. - Chairman of Armenian Consumers' Association NGO said there
is no order to calculate the minimum consumer basket cost.
`The government has not yet approved the order to count the minimum
basket. So, the cost has not been calculated. And we can not determine
the proportions of the minimum or average salary or pension,' Armen
Poghosyan told reporters on Saturday.
Even if a person gets an average salary of around 120 thousand drams,
which de facto is above living wage, this problem is not solved,
because usually one or two people are working in a family and the
revenue should be divided between 4-5 family members.
According to the 2012 data by the National Statistical Service, the
average household income per capita in Armenia is 39,056 drams, which
is already on the verge of living wage.
