PUTIN AND SARGSYAN AGREE ON AREAS OF COOPERATION

A press conference of the heads of Russia and Armenia took place in
Yerevan as a result of today's meeting between the two presidents.
Economic cooperation between Russia and Armenia was the main theme
of the meeting. President Serzh Sargsyan once again affirmed the
country's intention to take steps to join the Customs Union and the
Common Economic Space soon.
In response, Vladimir Putin said that Moscow was prepared to provide
all possible assistance to Yerevan in this process.
Vladimir Putin also spoke of the decision to cancel the 35% duty
on oil supplies to Armenia, to sell gas at $189 per thousand cubic
meters and export weapons at Russian prices.
In addition, he noted that in the first nine months of this year
trade between the two countries amounted to about $1 billion.
Vladimir Putin also stressed that Armenia is one of the main economic
partners of Russia.
The presidents also talked about humanitarian projects and about
opening a branch of Moscow State University in Yerevan.
The presidents also discussed the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Vladimir
Putin stressed the importance of the political-legal field for the
resolution of the conflict. However, he refused to talk about the
possible actions of Russia in case Azerbaijan attempts to attack
Armenia. He said that it is "counter-productive" to talk about it.
He also welcomed the resumption of negotiations between Armenia and
Azerbaijan and stressed that Russia will make every effort to achieve
a peaceful settlement of the conflict within the framework of OSCE
Minsk Group.
Shortly before the press conference, the parties signed a number of
documents including those on the gas supplies, creation of a joint
oil venture, etc.
