US ambassador meets with Armenia attorney general

YEREVAN. - Prosecutor General of Armenia, Gevorg Kostanyan, received
US Ambassador John Heffern.
The American diplomat inquired about the case into the fatal shooting
that occurred on June 1 near the house of former Governor Suren
Khachatryan of Syunik Region.
In this connection, Kostanyan presented the respective requirements of
Armenia's criminal law as well as the legal assessments by the
investigative body and the defense.
Speaking about the prosecutorial system reforms in Armenia, he pointed
to two directions: ruling out of impunity, and an effective fight
against corruption.
In turn, Ambassador Heffern reiterated his readiness to continue
assisting in the reforms which the Armenian Prosecutor General's
Office is implementing. He also expressed the hope that a new impetus
will be given to the cooperation between the attorney general's office
and the US Embassy in Armenia.
The interlocutors also agreed to continue collaborating and holding
regular meetings and consultations.
