YEREVAN. - In the lead-up to the Armenian National Assembly elections
on May 6, 2012, the European Union (EU) had promised that if the
elections were held in accordance with European standards, the EU
would organize a conference of donor countries to provide funding for
Armenia, Zhoghovurd daily reports.
`It was about approximately 1.5 billion euros.
`According to the assessment of the European donors, overall, the
parliamentary elections in Armenia were organized and held in
professional manner and effectively.
`But, despite this assessment, that conference is not held [to this day].
`Zhoghovurd tried to find out from the Armenian MFA as to when this
conference will take place.
``The donors' conference is a matter on the broad agenda of Armenia-EU
cooperation. We continue our consultations with our partners in the EU
to outline the future foundations and format of Armenia-EU
cooperation. In this context, the potential tools of the EU support
for Armenia's reforms likewise will be discussed,' the MFA noted.
`That is to say, the EU continues to put off this conference,'
Zhoghovurd writes.
