Prosperous Armenia explains decision on not participating in the vote
on gas agreement
December 21, 2013 | 14:23
YEREVAN. - The position of Prosperous Armenia on Armenia-Russia gas
deal is clear, as the deal was reached `behind the back of Armenian
citizens', secretary of the party Naira Zohrabyan said.
Neither political forces, parliament nor political parties were aware
of the deal, therefore Prosperous Armenia cannot participate in the
vote on vassal agreement, Zohrabyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
`We do not want to shoulder responsibility for the consequences that
are obviously predictable. I think it is the right approach to this
agreement. Let those who are ready to shoulder responsibility for this
deal vote on the treaty,' she emphasized.
She strongly disagreed with the view that by boycotting the vote,
Prosperous Armenia gives the green light to the Republican Party of
Armenia (RPA).
`This opinion has no grounds, because when you participate in the
vote, regardless of whether you vote for, against or abstain, the vote
is contributing to quorum. This is the green light to the RPA. Not
participating in the vote is the best way to thwart the adoption of
agreements,' she emphasized.
Non-coalition forces Heritage, Armenian National Congress and ARF
Dashnaktsutyun decided to vote against the agreement, according to
which Armenia will be fully dependent on Gazprom till 2043.
