REPRESENTATIVES OF GREEK AND TURKISH POLITICAL PARTIES VISIT MAGARAVANK
With the initiative of the Slovak Ambassador in Cyprus Oksana Tomova
and in co-operation with the Armenian Representative in the Parliament
Vartkes Mahdessian, a visit to Sourp Magar Monastery was organised on
Thursday 28th November 2013 for the representatives of the Greek and
Turkish Cypriot political parties.
The purpose of the visit was to create awareness about the poor state
the monastery is in with a view to secure funding for its restoration.
During the visit Mr. Mahdessian outlined to the political
representatives the historical background of the Monastery and
stressed the importance of this unique monument to the Armenian
community in particular as well as to the island of Cyprus in general.
