CC PRESIDENT: THIS IS TERRORIST ACT

    07:59 pm | February 01, 2013 | Politics

This is not only a deplorable fact, but also a threat to our
statehood, President of Armenia's Constitutional Court Gagik
    Harutyunyan said on February 1.

Mr Harutyunyan today visited presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan
at Grigor Lusavorch medical center where he was taken after
    yesterday's shooting.

The CC President says if we fail to swiftly identify the assailant(s)
and adequately evaluate the crime, it will affect the future
    development of the country.

"This is a terrorist act, rather than a mere assassination attempt,"
he said adding that the country's legislation allows finding
reasonable legal solutions in such situations.

If Paruyr Hayrikyan decides to apply to the Constitutional Court over
postponing the Election Day, the Court is to determine within 24 hours
the order [verbal or written] of examining the application.

Under Article 52 of Armenia's Constitution, if one of the presidential
candidates faces insurmountable obstacles, the election of the
President of the Republic shall be postponed for two weeks. In the
event that the obstacles recognized as insurmountable are not
eliminated within the aforementioned period of time a new election
shall be appointed and the voting shall be held on the fortieth day
following the expiration of the two-week's period. In case of the death
of one of the candidates before the day of voting a new election shall
be appointed and the voting shall be held on the fortieth day
following the date of appointment of the new election.

Mr Harutyunyan said only after studying the material they can say
whethere there are insurmountable obstacles for Hayrikyan or not.

Talking to reporters earlier in the day, Paruyr Hayrikyan said he
would not like to postpone the election but he had to exercise his
    right.
