JOIN INVESTIGATION INTO ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT AGAINST ARMENIAN PRESIDENTIAL HAS NO PROSPECTS

Gurgen Yeghiazaryan, ex-vice-minister of national security of Armenia
and member of the opposition bloc Armenian National Congress (ANC)
does not think that a joint investigation into the assassination
attempt against the presidential candidate Paruir Hairikyan by
Armenia's police and National Security Service.
"Because the police are more specialized in solving crimes of
murder. Joint efforts will lead to the police being ousted from the
investigation, which will not be of any benefit to the investigation,"
Mr Yeghiazaryan told Tert.am.
A joint group has been formed to investigate investigation into
the assassination attempt against the presidential candidate Paruir
Hairikyan. The Investigation Department of Armenia's National Security
Service is conducting the investigation.
In response to a remark that personal reasons rather than political
ones may be behind the assassination attempt, Mr Yeghiazaryan said:
"The shot fired at Paruir Hairikyan is a political one in any case. It
has to be found out who benefited from that."
Commenting on sarcastic comments in Facebook quoting Armenian
ex-president Robert Kocharyan who said that "even a district police
officer would solve the October 27 crime," Mr Yeghiazaryan said:
"Was the assassination attempt against Vardan Ghukasyan detected? Was
the murder of Vice-Chief of Armenia's police Gevorg Mheryan solved,
while some people [ex-chief of Armenia's police Alik Sargsyan]
claimed it was a matter of honor for them?"
With respect to political consequences, Mr Yeghiazaryan said that
Armenia's authorities must postpone the presidential election for
a fortnight.
