TEHRAN - The Iranian Association of Children's Writers has honored
veteran author Hushang Moradi Kermani in a symbolic gesture with a
goblet of honey.
He received the goblet during a ceremony at the Iranian Artists Forum
in Tehran on Monday.
`Moradi Kermani received the cup of honey for the sweet moments he
creates for children in his stories', the association said in a
statement.
Moradi Kermani, 69, is an eminent writer of books primarily for
children and teenagers. However, his works also appeal to adults.
In his short speech, Moradi Kermani lamented how society disregards
children writers.
During his speech, he recalled many pioneer writers who wrote for
children including Samad Behrangi, Abbbas Yamini-Sharif, Jabbar
Baghcheban and Mehdi Azar Yazdi.
`In the name of all those writers and 400 members of the association,
I hold my head up saying that I am proud that I write for children,'
he said.
Children's authors Afsaneh Shabannejad, Nasser Keshavarz and Hamidreza
Shahabadi spoke about Moradi Kermani's works and their impact on
children's literature.
Kiumars Purahmad, the director of the popular TV series `The Stories
of Majid', which was based on Moradi Kermani's book of the same title,
also spoke about him.
Purahmad pointed to the TV series as a turning point in his career
saying that the atmosphere of the stories was tangible for him and for
many children of those years.
The street children of Imam Ali's Popular Students Relief Society also
gave several performances during the event.
`Sweet Jam', `Like the Full Moon', `The Reservoir', and `Cushion' are
among Moradi Kermani's credits. Most of these works have been
translated into English, German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Arabic,
Armenian, Turkish and several other languages.
Moradi Kermani has been nominated for world literary awards such as
the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award in Sweden and the 2010 Hans
Christian Andersen Award in Switzerland.
