Serzh Sargsyan is the most acceptable person on the post of the
Armenian President for the West, analyst Igor Muradyan told media,
Thursday.
He said that for the first time in Armenia presidential campaign is
held in quite different situation as regards foreign policy landmarks.
Evidently, the incumbent president running for the second term has
taken the course of integration with the Western structures, the
western security system - NATO.
"Unlike the complementary policy of the previous years that was in
reality nothing but one-sided dependence on Moscow, today the picture
is changing fundamentally," Muradyan said.
The reason of the West's support to Sargsyan's candidature is the
latter's ability to retain power by all means, enforce the most
unpopular decisions, and his readiness to fulfill any project of the
West, he said. Hence, Muradyan thinks the West will give an extremely
positive assessment to the upcoming presidential election.
"As regards the blames by western ambassadors, they are nothing but
a performance show," Muradyan said.
Earlier, Polish Ambassador Zdzislaw Raczynski said in an interview with
Haykakan Zhamanak daily that the atmosphere of impunity in Armenia led
to the assassination attempt against presidential candidate Paruyr
Hayrikyan. He said that high-ranking officials lack the feeling of
what is called statehood.
Thus, the presidential candidates are as follows: incumbent
president Serzh Sargsyan from the Republican Party and former prime
minister Hrant Bagratyan from the Liberty Party. All the remaining
are self- nominated candidates: Leader of the Union for National
Self-Determination Party Paruyr Hayrikyan, Leader of Heritage Party
Raffi Hovannisian, Advisor for Political Issues of the Refugees and
the International Law Civil Society Network, ex-foreign minister of
NKR Arman Melikyan, Leader of National Accord Party Aram Haroutiunyan,
political expert Andrias Ghukasyan, and specialist in epic Vardan
Sedrakyan. The elections will be held on Feb 18 2013.
