The Alpha Gamma Alpha sorority of the California State University,
Northridge (CSUN) will be hosting the first annual "Imagine: Runaway
to Relief" charity fashion show event Saturday Feb. 9, Daily Sundial
reports.
The event is sponsored by the Society for Orphaned Armenian Relief
(SOAR), an international nonprofit organization committed to providing
humanitarian support to orphaned Armenian children and adults.
The organization also has relief orphanages located in Florida,
California and Pennsylvania and internationally in Syria, Armenia,
Lebanon and Russia.
The proceeds from the event will be going to renovate a SOAR orphanage
in Armenia and provide relief to their chapter in Syria.
Marine Piliposyan, who is Alpha Gamma Alpha's national philanthropy
chairperson, said the sorority chose SOAR because it was one of the
most well-known orphanages for their work in Armenia.
"I am excited that the event is happening because we have done a
year of planning and there has been a lot of postponement," said
Piliposyan. "I am hoping it goes well enough so we can have another
one next year."
