AIM IS TO HELP SYRIAN ARMENIANS INTEGRATE INTO SOCIETY, ARMENIAN PRESIDENT SAYS
YEREVAN, February 8. /ARKA/. Armenian authorities aim at helping
Syrian Armenians integrate into the society as quick as possible,
current president of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan said at his meeting
with voters in Yerevan Scientific Research Institute of Mathematical
Machines Thursday.
The president said that the authorities are currently settling a number
of issues related to Syrian Armenians who arrived in Armenia recently,
including education and employment problems.
"I don't say we are solving these issues at a very high level, because
it depends not only on the possibilities we have. But we are doing
our best", the president said.
Sargsyan also said that support is provided to both Syrian Armenians
who arrived in Armenia and to those who remained in Syria.
"Otherwise we have no the right to call Armenia home for all
Armenians", the president said.
Armenian community of Syria is among mightiest Armenian communities
in the world. About 100,000 Armenians lived in Syria till recently.
Armenian community plays a major role in the country's social,
political and cultural life. Most part of Syrian Armenians lives in
Aleppo (over 60,000 people), Damascus and Latakia. Armenians started
leaving Syria for homeland after the recent military and political
escalation.
Earlier, the president said that about 6,000 Syrian Armenians found
refuge in Armenia today. -0-
