RAFFI HOVANNISYAN PROMISES TO CHANGE OVER TO PARLIAMENTARY GOVERNMENT IF ELECTED
YEREVAN, February 8. /ARKA/. Armenian presidential candidate Raffi
Hovannisyan promised to change over to parliamentary system in the
country if he is elected, Novosti-Armenia reported.
"I think that a constitutional council should be set up in our country
shortly: we should adopt a new constitution. We should change over to
parliamentary government", Hovannisyan told a press conference Friday.
The parliamentary government will ensure collective responsibility and
maximum involvement of citizens and political forces in the country's
political development, he said.
Yet, he said, the change of government system is not enough. There
should be quality, he added.
Armenian presidential elections will be held in Armenia on February
18. Eight nominees are running for president: current president
Serzh Sargsyan, former prime minister and leader of Freedom party
Hrant Bagratyan, former foreign minister and head of Heritage party
Raffi Hovhannisyan, famous Soviet dissident and leader of National
Self-Determination party Paruyr Hayrikyan, ex foreign minister of
Karabakh Arman Melikyan, political scientist and head of Radio Hay
Andrias Ghukasyan, philologist Vardan Sedrakyan and leader of National
Consent party Aram Harutinyan. -0-
