As of January 1, 2013, a total of 4,756 detainees and convicts were
registered in Armenia - 224 more as compared with January 1, 2012.
Armenia's Deputy Prosecutor General Aram Tamazyan reported that 114
people committed 99 crimes in Armenia's 12 penitentiaries in 2012.
Mr Tamazyan also spoke of the criminal cases that evoked a wide
public response. Specifically, 53 people have been charged in the
case involving the ex-head of Armenia's Social Security Service
Vazgen Khachikyan.
