YEREVAN. - According to the sources that are close to the Armenia
representations of international financial organizations, the
obstacles, which Armenia has placed before the well-known French
Carrefour hypermarket chain, could leave dire consequences on the
country's standing, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reports.
"Specifically, Armenia's position in the 'Doing Business' scale could
fall back by several dozens of points because of hindering Carrefour's
entry to the Armenian market. In line with some calculations,
instead of the present day 32nd place, Armenia could find itself in
the fiftieth or the sixtieth spots.
We had asked questions, to the head office of this financial network,
with respect to the situation that was created around Carrefour,
[and] the short and standard reply from there makes it apparent that
the situation is still very uncertain," Haykakan Zhamanak writes.
