OPPOSITION CANDIDATE CALLS ON ARMENIA'S INCUMBENT PRESIDENT 'TO HAND POWER OVER TO THE PEOPLE'

Chairman of the Heritage party Raffi Hovannisian is holding a national
rally in Yerevan Freedom Square at 5:00pm, calling on Armenia's
incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan to meet with him before Wednesday
and discuss the "issue of handing power over to the people."
"The Armenian people have obviously gained victory 80 to 20. They
marked it yesterday and will legitimize our national civil victory. No
one can snatch this victory from us. It belongs not to Raffi or Serzh,
but to the entire Armenian nation," Mr Hovannisian said.
He recalled his appeal to Armenia's incumbent president to "have
the backbone" to hand power over to the people. "But, unfortunately,
he has not yet been able to do so."
Mr Hovannisian wants to shake Serzh Sargsyan's hand. "I want to shake
Serzh Sargsyan's hand and accept his congratulation for Armenia's
new authorities," he said.
