The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) has abandoned the plan
for a public gathering in Yerevan's Liberty Square later today.
In a statement issued earlier on Thursday, the party's spokesperson,
Eduard Sharmazanov, says it is the responsibility of the Republican,
as a governing political force, to avoid situations that could spur
tensions in the country.
Considering the Heritage party leader's call for a meeting with
President Serzh Sargsyan an "anti-constitutional adventure",
Sharmazanov says that the RPA refuses to conduct the scheduled event.
"We are sure that gathering together in the symbolic place soon,
we will see the freedom and democracy's victory, which we recorded
in the country in the course of the 2013 presidential election,"
reads the statement.
