Victory Rally--5pm Tomorrow--Liberty Square
Yerevan--After Serzh Sargsyan failed to show at Liberty Square, which
the ruling Republican Party had reserved today for its own victory
rally, Raffi Hovannisian led thousands of his supporters on a march to
Baghramyan 26. At the presidential palace, acting president Serzh
Sargsyan received Hovannisian. After the initial exchange, the
presidential coterie requested that all cameras be turned off.
When Hovannisian left the building, thousands of supporters who had
spontaneously gathered along the street outside erupted with chants
of: `Ha-yas-tan!' Addressing the fearless crowd, Hovannisian declared
that the Armenian people would settle for nothing less than victory.
`We are the masters of our constitution, our rights, and our
presidency,' he declared.
In the end he said that he would reveal the full details of his
meeting with Sargsyan at Liberty Square on Friday (tomorrow) at 5pm,
and asked that the crowd disperse peacefully.
Despite this call, Hovannisian's supporters proceeded to march down
Baghramyan Boulevard to return to Liberty Square, where tens of
thousands spontaneously gathered to show their determination to have
their electoral triumph recognized.
Moved by their grit and strength, Ms. Armenuhi Hovannisian and Armen
Martirosyan spoke before this crowd, reiterating the need for unity
and perseverance.
