Raffi Hovannisian is the legitimately elected president of Armenia,
Levon Ter-Petrosyan, the first President of Armenia, Leader of the
Armenian National Congress, said at today's congress of the Armenian
Pan-National Movement Party.
He pointed out that he has no doubt that Hovannisian has won the
election and the people have the right to protest against the rigged
election. "Like over the last 5 years, Serzh Sargsyan remains an
illegitimate president", the ANC leader said. He also expressed his
discontent with the fact that the foreign forces do not condemn the
rigged election and thereby legitimize Serzh Sargsyan's power.
Ter-Petrosyan thinks that the international community, specifically
the international observation organizations edit the distorted
electoral processes every time. "It is clear to me that the foreign
forces prefer to see Serzh Sargsyan as president of Armenia and they
do not conceal that. The reason for which the West would not recognize
Raffi Hovannisian's victory and didn't recognize my victory at the
2008 election is that we are guided by the national interests, unlike
Sargsyan", he said. In the meantime, he criticizes Hovannisian for the
fact that the latter has not presented a clear action plan.
To recall, the supporters of Raffi Hovannisian, who obtained 36.75% of
votes and gained the second place in the Feb 18 presidential race,
have been holding rallies in Liberty Square since Feb 19.
