The parliamentary group of the opposition Armenian National Congress
(HAK) has issued a statement saying that the authorities once again
used their full potential for rigging the Feb. 18 presidential
election.
"The official results announced by the country's authorities do not
reflect the reality. That was another instance of disrespect for
Armenian people, violation of their rights and dignity.
As was expected the public responded to the rigged election with
a new tide of discontent, which was the case during the falsified
elections in 2003 and 2008.
This protest movement has spread throughout the country, but the
authorities are not showing any understanding. People have only one
issue on the agenda now, they are eager to restore the constitutional
order in the country and prevent the regime from seizing the power
and their votes.
In support of the people, who have taken to the street to defend their
rights, the HAK faction is boycotting the NA four-day session. At
the same time, the faction intends to make use of the parliamentary
procedures to express its position from the NA tribune," the faction
said in the statement.
