The large family's eldest son was sent off to the army from a
relative's poor condition house but the parents hope that they will
meet him in a new flat.
The Harutyunyans live in Jartar village, Martouni region. The eldest of
the family's 6 children serves in the defence army while the youngest
has not been 2 years old yet.
Their family of 8 members lives in a 2-room flat with poor conditions
but as family members say the worst thing is that the tin plates of
the roof have been rotten and the rain water pours into the house in
rainy weather.
"We cannot afford to mend the roof and repair the house, we are hardly
able to make both ends meet. My husband does not work, he has health
problems, our only income is the children's benefit of 60.000 drams,"
the children's mother, Mrs. Lilit says and adds with tears in her
eyes that one of her children is a student and they do not know how
to pay for her education.
The mouldy walls of the house most vividly speak of its dampness.
Children's mother worriedly states that the children are often ill.
"We can't get out of hospital," she adds.
"One night the child was crying, I came up and made sure that it had
no problems but the baby did not sleep all night. In the morning I
noticed that the water poured from the ceiling directly on the baby,"
Mother presents the situation this way and assures that they have
applied for the issue several times but "they came, examined the
house, promised to solve the problem and went away, while we have so
far been living in the same conditions in the same house.
She does not lose her hope, though, "When sending my son Narek off to
the army I said, "My dear, we are seeing you off from other people's
house but we shall meet you at our own flat".
P. S. As we were informed at the NKR Ministry of Labour and Social
Affairs in 2011 the family was involved in the housing list. By law
families having 6 and more children must be provided with flats within
3 years which means that the family should wait until 2014.
