AZERBAIJAN UNDERMINES EFFORTS OF NKR PEACEFUL SETTLEMENT THROUGH OTHER INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS: HOVIK ABRAHAMYAN

YEREVAN, JANUARY 10, ARMENPRESS: National Assembly speaker of the
Republic of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan in the frame of his official
visit to Brussels on January 8 had a meeting with President of the
Belgian Senate Sabine de Bethune and President of the Belgian Chamber
of Representatives Andre Flahaut.
As Information and Public Relations department of the National
Assembly informed Armenpress, Armenian NA speaker Abrahamyan
thanked for the worm reception, later on behalf of his name and
the delegation wished the high ranking officials success in their
responsible job and the people progress and achievements in the new
year. In the course of the launched meeting the sides high estimated
the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two
countries and the intensification of contacts, including mutual visits
paid by parliamentary friendship groups and members of the standing
committees. They also jointly highlighted the establishment of close
cooperation in the frame of parliamentary assemblies of international
organizations amid the parliamentarians.
According to Hovik Abrahamyan parliamentary diplomacy plays a
significant role in strengthening the friendship between the two
peoples and reportedly both the parts should benefit from it. The
development prospects of Armenia- European Union relations during the
discussion have also been touched upon, including the fact "more for
more" principle is the basis of EU's new Eastern Partnership ideology,
which stipulates providing more support by European Union to partner
countries for more reforms.
Dwelling on the reforms implemented in Armenia NA speaker assured
regardless of the problems and challenges the region faces, Armenia
is following up statehood democratic path. Armenia is determined
in continuing comprehensive reforms in compliance with European
standards. NA speaker Abrahamyan also spoke about NKR conflict solution
issue. Hovik Abrahamyan stated Azerbaijan distorting the essence and
the grave consequences of the conflict undertakes attempts to involve
other international organizations in the conflict settlement issue
thus hindering peace process and pursuing advocacy goals, which is
absolutely unacceptable.
