We would like to see Turkey and Armenia healed the wounds of the past
and moving forward together toward a common future of security and
prosperity, the press service of the U.S. Embassy in Baku reported
commenting on campaign of collecting signatures in support of the
Turkish-Armenian border opening recently initiated on the website of
the White House.
"For this, we call upon the Turkish Parliament to take the next step
and ratify the protocols to normalize relations as soon as possible",
the embassy said.
The embassy also noted that in addition to the ratification of
the protocols, the United States calls on Turkey to continue the
practical steps - "such as the restoration of diplomatic relations
and the opening of borders, which can play an important role in
strengthening the ties between the neighbors".
"With regard to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the United States agree
that the status quo is unacceptable, and continue to play an active
role as co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, in order to assist the
parties to find a lasting and peaceful settlement", the sources said.
